Charith Perera is the Co-founder of TDot Performance, Canada’s fastest growing retail company and e-commerce leader for automotive products. Tdot Performance has been featured on the Profit Hot 500 from 2015-2018 and is currently building a next-gen commerce platform to transform and dominate the automotive industry.

Charith also graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Corporate Finance.

About the Working Group

The Inclusive Entrepreneurship Working Group is a gathering of EDGE members and staff who are working – or would like to work – to address systemic barriers for racialized and underrepresented communities.

Why join us? It will be an opportunity to work with others who are invested in this space to enhance the impact of your venture; and support initiatives that are tackling systemic racism and having a positive impact in the Peel and Halton communities.

This is a first meeting intended to explore the goals, structure, and project ideas emerging from our respective ventures.

About this Event

EDGE is pleased to host a two-part webinar series by Dr. Bethany Osborne on fundraising strategies and grant writing. You will be introduced to elements of developing a fundraising strategy, including telling a compelling story and the key elements of writing a grant proposal, as well as work plans and budgets. You will gain tips, insights and strategies to achieve success in your funding endeavors.

Part 1 (July 8): Developing a Funding Strategy: Telling a Compelling Story

You will:

  • Discuss the elements of an effective funding strategy
  • Apply the elements of an effective funding strategy to your own context
  • Identify the different steps to create a strong funding application Identify the different components that make a compelling story
  • Draft components of your funding strategy and project story

Part 2 (July 16): Writing Funding Applications (Grant Writing 101)

You will:

  • Review the different steps to create a strong funding application
  • Understand the essential components of a work plan and budget
  • Practice step-by-step development of a project-specific work plan and budget
  • Leave the session with components needed to create your next funding application

PLEASE NOTE: You are encouraged to attend both webinars for a robust exploration of practices and strategies. You will need to register for each date separately.

John Lam

John started his entrepreneurship journey as an undergraduate and master’s student at University of Waterloo. Two startups later, he changed course and moved towards mentoring and coaching other entrepreneurs. John has helped numerous entrepreneurs grow their startup ideas through teaching entrepreneurship at Wilfrid Laurier University, and managing the incubators of University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus. John’s journey also took him to many entrepreneurship and innovation centres around the world to learn about entrepreneurship from outside of Canada. Some notable places include San Francisco and Auckland, New Zealand. John is currently the Entrepreneurship Lead for EDGE in Brampton’s Davis Campus.
