An Evening of Connection and Conversation: Rise Program Welcomes Second Cohort

Highlights from the Rise Cohort 2 Welcome Session

On June 18, EDGE welcomed the second cohort of impact entrepreneurs in the Rise program at Sheridan College’s Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga. The evening began with founders networking and forging connections through meaningful conversations with each other, the EDGE team and the coaches.

When the session began formally, everyone gathered around their tables to participate in the land acknowledgment, followed by a welcome and introduction to the EDGE team and Rise. Team members introduced themselves and described their roles, and how they could best support Rise participants.

Leonard Dalipi, Program Manager - EDGE, sharing the session agenda and welcoming everyone
Noreen Javed, Operations Manager - EDGE, presenting the service providers network
and how Rise participants can use their $1000 credit
Adithya Jambu, Customer Service Associate - EDGE, introducing the EDGE co-working space
and inviting everyone to experience it.
Nadine Sinno, Student Engagement Manager - EDGE, explains how Rise program participants
can work with talented Sheridan students.
Firuzan Mistry, Marketing and Communications Manager - EDGE, sharing Rise Connect,
a platform with resources, perks and tools for Rise program participants.
Renee Devereaux, Director EDGE, introducing herself and inviting Rise participants to connect with her.

After the program overview and coach introduction, participants talked to each of the three coaches in small groups. This exercise allowed participants and coaches to get to know each other and determine who they’d like to work with for the next eight months.

One of the evening’s highlights was hearing the founders introduce themselves and share brief yet inspiring stories about their ventures. From social justice initiatives to organic farming, cybersecurity to environmentally friendly construction materials, and media production, Rise Cohort 2 founders are diverse and make meaningful contributions to their communities. The session ended with an activity where participants shared their expectations for the Rise program over the next eight months.

Even after the session formally closed, the positive energy of the exchange of ideas kept everyone engaged, with many staying behind to continue conversations and network with each other.
